I was very lucky to be contacted by The Design Files to do an interview for their blog. They were also showcasing a small film made by Historia Films on me a while back. Hence the giant scarf and layers I’ve got on!

About:

Kim Jaeger is a ceramicist based in Melbourne. She is best known for her range of Pot Heads – hand made planter pots that are characterized by unique faces.

The idea of functionality is central to Kim’s designs and carries through to her range of ceramics that includes pots, plates, cups and other wares.

Kim completed a Masters Degree in Graphic Design and New Media at Wollongong University before heading overseas to live in Europe for two years in 2003.

On her return, she relocated to Melbourne where she became involved with Seventh Gallery, an ARI (Artist Run Initiative) where she sat on the board from 2010 – 2012. This experience broadened her knowledge of many art forms, and provided opportunities to curate local and interstate exhibitions. This then led to setting up an international artist-in-residence program for the gallery.

This period sparked an interest in sculptural form leading to the investigation of functionality in art and an interest in how we live with objects in our everyday lives.

Kim has recently exhibited her functional pieces in Los Angeles, Melbourne and Sydney.
